Sorry about my ugly little hand in the way

I will admit I don’t have a slow cooker at home but have been recommended one by so many friends, so was curious to see what recipes could be made in a slow cooker and learn more about the slow cooking process from Sarah’s book. So happy that I did give this one a read as I learned so much and I would recommend this book to all my readers who want to have a more healthy diet. So excited to implement all the wisdom I learned from Sarah’s books into my daily life and eat and make healthy meals for everyone. Its so important to never stop learning about the effects our diet has in our daily life. You eat better you have a clearer mind etc.

Did you know that high temperatures and steam can account for the loss of 30 percent of nutritional content of vegetables ? using a slow cooker will help you preserve the mineral and vitamin content of your food.

wow, check out this!

A lot of other slow cooker books on the market contain recipes with extra hidden sugars in sauces and canned goods Sarah’s book doesn’t and will substitute with cleverer options. The recipes are also designed for busy young people, not many steps and you can put them in the cooker in one hit and then come home 8 hours later to your meal.

I quit sugar : Simplicious by Sarah Wilson – Book review

Recently I have been thinking about about cutting down on sugar but it just seems almost impossible for me, I admit I am addicted to sugary treats and just cant see life without them. the amount of sugar in the drinks and treats I eat are not good for my body I know this, sugar is addictive… so I guess I have a sugar addiction. I get cravings If I don’t get my sugar filled foods and until recently i had to no idea how bad this was for my health. Like anyone I have been reading articles online and learning about how to reduce my sugar intake, it hasn’t helped though as right now as I type I’m drinking coca cola!

Wow this is a big book 😅

This book will give you 306 sugar free recipes to play around with from mug cakes to sustainable sweet fish curry! I couldn’t believe the amount of fantastic treats I can make without adding sugar, I feel like I am ready to really change my diet. The book is very large with large pictures and nicely written recipes with descriptions I would say the recipes and ideas are pretty easy to follow and I love how fantastic the design and layout of the book is.

Sarah Wilson stresses the importance of using leftovers and scraps and storing away food properly for further waste, this will reduce food waste and save you money. Sarah explains that by doing this you will save more time not going to the supermarket and being tempted by easy and fast processed foods, she goes into detail on storing the foods which I learned a thing or two by reading the sort and store content of this book. I definitely feel inspired to step up my food storing game and update my cupboards and fridges. Sarah talks about reducing cleaning up time as well like not using as many pots and pans etc. She also talks about food creativity and not being afraid to play around with leftovers to create fantastic healthy meals.

There is a quote in this book that I absolutely love : JUST EAT REAL FOOD PEOPLE !

Delving deeper into my quitting sugar journey and being inspired by the recipes in Sarah’s book i had a watch at a few videos on youtube about giving up sugar and sugars effects on the body, here are the videos I watched :

Nearly 20 mins long, you will need a bit of concentration for this video but its very informative and detailed.
A quick explanation of sugars affect on the brain, your dopamine receptors are your reward centre of the brain and sugar can activate your receptors! Sugar can be addictive and kicks off reward inside your brain.
Brilliant video to motivate you to give up sugar, many people have successfully gave up sugar and have have healthier brains and bodies. I am so motivated after seeing this!

Facts about sugar that I didn’t know before

Consuming high amounts of sugar has been shown to accelerate telomere shortening, which increases cellular aging, as you grow older your telomere does shorten naturally but sugar can accelerate this process which means more wrinkles and ageing faster… ugh no thank you. this is probably the biggest motivator for me to put down the treats!

Linked to cognitive decline, studies suggest high sugar intake over years can result in memory loss and lower IQ …. No thank you!

There are many hidden added sugars in foods that you wouldn’t notice, such as sauces. I feel motivated to make my own sauces at home now more than ever.
