How to use Pinterest for blogging – Increase your blog traffic in 2024 – FREE Course

Welcome to your micro course for getting started on Pinterest as a blogger ! You may want more traffic to your blog or website via Pinterest, or maybe you have no idea how to get started on Pinterest.

Basically in a nut shell Pinterest is a image/video pinning website, you have a profile where you have ” boards ” the boards are where your pins are stored. You can create a ” recipe ” board or a “camping board” etc. These boards can be private or public. if your a blogger looking for blog traffic you want to have all your boards set to public.

You can search Pinterest for just about any topic, pin content to your boards and click on links that take you elsewhere on the world wide web. If you have a blog with lots of blog posts you want to create pins that showcase your content and add in your blog links. This will help grow your blog considerably. You just need patience to build a beautiful Pinterest profile.

To be successful on PINTEREST there are three main rules :

  1. Be consistent with posting pins, at least one pin per day if you can.
  2. Optimizing pins with keywords and making them pretty and attractive ( clickable )
  3. Creating a tidy and professional looking profile page and Pinterest board

Building your Pinterest profile

If you haven’t already open up a Pinterest account and get yourself a fitting username. Most usernames are taken so you may need to be inventive. Pick a profile image that is fitting to your topic. Such as cars if your blog is about cars or your blog is a travel blog you could do a lovely beach image. Do not post anything that is not relevant to your blogging topic !

The best advice you can get about description areas on profiles is to fill it with exactly what your audience is interested in. for example a makeup artist may write ” I post my new makeup weekly and also post makeup inspiration, please follow me to be inspired ” This lets the audience know who you are and what you post straight away, they can click ” follow ” and get your content on their home feed. They can save your pins and follow your content and hopefully come take a peak at your blog.

Important points to remember

  1. Fitting profile image that reflects your niche or subject you are going to post about, alongside an eye-catching cover photo.
  2. Add your blog link to your profile ( other social media links don’t matter as they can be accessed via your blog )
  3. Your profile description should be as direct as possible about the content you are going to post on Pinterest, be inventive and creative.
  4. The goal is to create eye catching clickable content that will interest Pinterest users enough for them to click the links and visit your blog. The more clickable, organised and beautiful your boards on Pinterest look the more engagement will come.

Building a page takes time, gaining followers takes time. Do not be disheartened if its not giving you results fast. Getting traffic from Pinterest to your blog/website can take months!

Tips and Tricks to get more followers on Pinterest

Growing your following on Pinterest will take some time. Follow other users that are related to your interests as they will receive a notification that you have followed them and will probably come to checkout your content. I would say follow at least 5 interesting Pinterest accounts every few days.

Interact with other users by commenting on pins, things you find interesting make sure to ask questions and reply on comment sections on pins. Your content will be seen by those who interact with you. Try to comment at least 10 times a week on relevant interesting pins. Don’t become spammy! Write interesting and engaging comments.

Share your Pinterest link on all other platforms you use, this creates visibility.

Keep an clean and tidy Pinterest account, boards that are organised, content that is fun and engaging. Trust me being more organised works wonders and your followers will love this. You can make use of ” sections ” in your Pinterest boards to keep everything well presented.

Normal Pinterest account vs Business Pinterest account

The difference between a normal and business Pinterest account is basically being able to access Pinterest Business Hub, Analytics, and various advertising options like Idea ads, video ads, carousels, collections ads, and product catalogs, analytic tools, add your website link and the option of a cover photo. If your a blogger or own a website selling goods or services you want your content to look professional, you can create rich pins which are so much better than normal pins.

If you already have a personal account then you can very easily convert it to a business account right away, just go to your down arrow on top right corner of Pinterest and you will see ” convert to business account ” click this. Business accounts on Pinterest are FREE ! ( there are paid tools on Pinterest you can optionally use )

Signing up for scratch with one just click sign up on the Pinterest landing page and select “ create a business account” and get all your details filled in.

Normal pins vs Rich pins

Ok the key difference between normal pins and rich pins are the additional information that rich pins provides to the viewer. You see normal pins don’t update with with additional information from the source website and rich pins do, rich pins will sync date automatically from the source website direct to your pins and will display extra information above and below your pin.

There are three types of rich pins, Recipe Pins, Article Pins and Product Pins. These type of pins are useful for bloggers as you can direct traffic to your website from these pins once you publish them.

Article pins – Details of authors, Headlines of the articles, add longer descriptions. Article pins will be very useful for you as a blogger and you should publish your blog posts to Pinterest under a rich article pin to gain traffic.

Recipe pins – Can add info like ingredient list, serving time etc. this is handy if you blog a lot about recipes then make use of this rich pin.

Product pins – Display prices, up to date availability on the products, showcase products with detailed information. this is fantastic if you are a blogger who sells products, such as eBooks. You can generate traffic and sales this way.

As a business account you can also promote your pins/rich pins within Pinterest as ads which is obviously not for free. This is optional as you can generate lots of traffic without the need for buying ads.
