A visit to Dumbarton castle | What you can do in and around the castle 🏰

Dumbarton castle sits on a volcanic plug of basalt known as Dumbarton rock and overlooks the Scottish town of Dumbarton, I had a little day trip to this area on a beautiful sunny day and just wanted to share my pictures and experience with my readers. The views are amazing at the bottom of the castle, there are many picnic benches and places to sit on the grass and have something to eat. To get into the castle you need to buy a ticket although children under 7 go free and so do carers! Find out more here : https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/dumbarton-castle/

The dumbarton rock was formed 340 million years ago !

You will see dumbarton football stadium just as you come into Dumbarton rock and once on the grass looking up at the castle, if you look to your left you can see levengrove park across the water just across the river leven. The park is 1.7 miles away from dumbarton rock but looks so near as you can literally see it across the water. The park is well worth a visit, so tidy and well kept. The picture below shows you the view looking onto dumbarton rock! Plenty picnic areas and benches to choose from.

Levengrove park!
Beautiful view
There’s a lovely memorial bench made of poppies facing the memorial stone, the inscription made me shed a tear I wont lie,it was such a great day with kids laughing and having fun in the atmosphere and are freedom and peace wouldn’t be possible without those who fought for it, lest we forget x
Plenty signage to find your way about
Scotland flag flowing in the wind
Stunning views 👏
So much greenery x
Small beach area with lovely views
I don’t like posting myself.. but hey its me 💫

  1. Hey there, love your blog!
Great post! The views from Dumbarton castle seem breathtaking. I’ve never been there but it seems like a must-visit destination. What else can you tell us about the history of the castle?
